Can anyone help with breaking into the accounting field?
I have a 4 year degree in accounting, and have been working as an accounting technician in Greensboro, NC. I am definitely overqualified for the job, and desperately want to get a good paying job in the accounting field, but I am having a lot of difficulty. I don't want to work in one of the big 4 firms (seems too imitidating). Monster, CareerBuilder, Yahoo Hotjobs have not been working for me, and I don't know what steps to take. All the jobs I am finding are either for "Senior" positions or basic data entry A/P, A/R work. It almost seems like one of those things where you have to know somebody. Does anyone have anyone suggestions? Thanks for the help.

u seem young, it wont b easy to find high payin job at young age is ur current job secured? and do u think u'll get paid more as u work there for longer period of time? if yes to two, then u should stay there. if yes to one, then u need to look for a better job but keep up the good work in ur current job. if yes to none, then WHAT ARE YOU DOING? get a new one if u change ur job, usually u cant expect to get paid good. try to work at one place as long as possible, if things r completely messed up, then look for a new one, arite? hope this helps :)

The problem isn't your education or experience...its your location. I live in Dallas and I can promise you would have a job as a staff accountant in under 3 weeks here. Use Monster to verify that if you wish. My solution to you is move. Move to a large metropolitan area. Maybe NYC or Chicago or Denver or wherever. And yes you are way underemployed.

First of all, you have to work your way up to a good paying job. Find another job if you wish, but you're at the "entry level" position stage of your career. Eventually, your education and experience will work together to bring you to a higher paying position.
